The bear has long been a symbol of comfort, hope and generosity. These are values that sit at the heart of LifeFlight. For many Australians, a LifeFlight bear represents reassurance during difficult moments and a simple way to give back. Over the years, these bears have become part of a powerful fundraising tradition, helping support critical care services across Queensland.
With A Beary Big Trail, the bear takes on a new role, evolving from a small symbol into a large-scale community experience. Each sculpture tells a story, bringing together art, community and purpose in a way that’s both meaningful and memorable. It’s a symbol people recognise and one that continues to make a real difference.

Celebrating 20 Years of LifeFlight on the Darling Downs
In 2027, Toowoomba will come alive with one of the region’s most exciting public events: A Beary Big Trail. To mark 20 years of LifeFlight serving the Darling Downs, a trail of beautifully designed bear sculptures will appear across the city, transforming streets, parks and local businesses into a vibrant outdoor gallery.
This milestone builds on the legacy of the Darling Downs Dozen, a group of passionate local supporters whose vision and advocacy helped bring LifeFlight’s aeromedical service to the region. Their commitment ensured that people living and working across the Darling Downs could access critical care when time and distance matter most.
Today, that same spirit of community continues to power LifeFlight’s 24/7 operations and A Beary Big Trail is a celebration of that shared legacy. For six to eight weeks, locals and visitors will follow the trail, discovering each unique bear while connecting with LifeFlight’s story — from those early champions to the crews responding every day across farms, highways and regional communities.
More than just an art trail, this is a celebration of the people, partnerships and moments that have shaped two decades of lifesaving service and an invitation for the community to be part of what comes next.
